Mayan Blood

“Our textiles are the books the colonisers couldn’t burn”

- Angelina Aspuac, Sacatepequez Guatemala

Mayan Blood is a documentary photo series exploring the struggle of indigenous Mayan women in Guatemala to protect their ancestral textile designs from cultural appropriation. Created in collaboration with AFEDES, the project offers rare portraits of women whose traditions often discourage photography, made possible through trust and mutual respect. The work celebrates the enduring connection between craft, identity and cultural resilience.
